Vault Release Notes: January 2025

January 2025 Release Overview

Internet Archive upgraded the Vault service to Version 1.6.0 in January 2025. This release includes the new bulk upload metadata feature, file format (MIME type) detection improvements, minor network improvements, and a bug fix.

New & Improved Features

• Bulk Metadata Upload 

  • Vault now supports bulk uploading metadata via CSV for your Collections and Folders. Users can now download and upload a Metadata Template CSV file to create and manage metadata using this feature. To access this feature, users can: 
    • Navigate to the Collections page.
    • Select their desired collection or folder.
    • Click 'Metadata' from the action button menu.

• File Format Detection Improvements 

  • Improvements have been made to detect MIME types for deposited files in Vault. Upon upload, Vault now assigns the correct mime type to a file, even if it does not have an extension. This assigned MIME type will be the file type on the collections page. 

  • This improved detection process will also be retroactively applied to files deposited before this release, and correct MIME types will be assigned where applicable.

Network Improvements

• Any automated email from Vault will now come from [e-mail]. Automated emails you may receive from this email alias include: 
  • Fixity reports
  • Deposit reports
  • New user login created notification 
  • User password reset request

Bug Fixes

• The Vault deposit workflow UI previously allowed users to select and upload two files with the same name into the same location in the same deposit event. This has been fixed.
