About the Web Uploader
The Web Uploader is Vault’s browser-based deposit, similar to that of many other websites. It has a high upload speed, transfer monitoring, and tools to avoid duplication deposits. It also allows you to deposit a full folder or directory of files all at once, with the option to pause or cancel deposits as needed. The Web Uploader is best used for tens, hundreds, or possibly thousands of files via the Vault web application.
How to Deposit Content with the Web Uploader
- Click Deposit from the top navigation bar.
- Drag and drop or select the files or folders from your device into the Drop Files here pane. The total file count and total upload size of your selected content will display below the pane.
- Once you have selected your desired content, you have the option to remove any files or folders by clicking the x beside the desired content, or you can remove all content by selecting Clear all files below the Drop Files here pane. As you make changes, the file count and total upload size displayed below the pane will update.
- Select the destination of your desired content from the Select a destination for your files pane.
- You have the option to create a new folder or collection by clicking either New Folder or New Collection at the bottom of the pane. Once either is created, they will display in the pane and be pre-selected as the destination of your upload.
- If you select a destination that already has the content you are uploading, those files or folders will be flagged to you. Continuing to upload them will overwrite the existing content, so you can either clear the overwrites, or continue with the upload.
- Once you are satisfied with your desired content, click Confirm. You will be prompted to confirm your upload on the Confirmation page.
- Here you can review the total files included in the upload, the total number of files that are being overwritten (if relevant), and the amount of data the upload will use out of your data quota. If you want to make any changes, click Back. You will be taken back to the Deposit page and can review your deposit selections.
- Once are satisfied, click Confirm upload. A progress bar will appear indicating the Upload progress of your deposit. It will indicate the percentage of completeness, the time remaining, and the size of the completed deposit.
- Here you can choose to either Pause or Cancel the upload. Canceling the upload will stop anything that has not been completely uploaded yet, but content that has been uploaded at the time of cancellation will be saved. The data size indicator helps to understand how much content will be uploaded at the time of cancellation.
- Once finished you will see a Your deposit is complete! message. You can select View your uploaded files or Make another deposit. Viewing your uploaded files will take you to your collection page. Make another deposit will take you back to the deposit page with the destination folder pre-selected.
- Once the upload has finished processing, you will receive an email verifying the completed deposit with a link to the deposit report.
- A deposit report will be generated for each deposit that lists statistics for every file deposited. Deposit reports are emailed to users and also displayed in and accessible from the Vault dashboard. Deposit reports currently are generated for each deposit, however, this may change in the future to report deposits during a time period, such as a daily deposit report.
How to Deposit Content from a Collection
From the Collections page you can deposit content directly into a Collection or Folder by doing the following:
- Select your desired collection or folder.
- Click Deposit here from the row of action buttons.
- Choosing this action takes you to the Deposit page with the Select a destination for your content field pre-populated with either the selected Collection or Folder.
- Follow steps 2-7 in the How to Deposit Content with the Web Uploader instructions above.
